The three-year-old son of a missing Ukrainian man suspected of murdering his wife and four relatives in Sacramento in the US has been found dead.

Authorities were led to the location by a note written in Russian that was found in Mr Nikolay Soltys's car. The body of Sergey was found in a box under a light tower in a Sacramento suburb.

Mr Soltys is suspected of killing his wife, his aunt and uncle, and two young cousins on Monday. Investigators are still searching for him.

The note was written on the back of a photograph of the child and his mother, Lyubov, who was one of the victims. It was concealed in the door panel of the car.

Mr Soltys was seen at both crime scenes, which are about 20 minutes apart. He has been charged with the five murders. Sacramento police department spokesman Sgt James Lewis said investigators believe he also killed his son.

Police believe he killed his wife in the couple's North Highlands home and then drove 20 minutes to a duplex in Rancho Cordova, where they say he stabbed his aunt and uncle and attacked two nine-year-old cousins.

About an hour after leaving Rancho Cordova, investigators said, Mr Soltys arrived at his mother's house in Citrus Heights to pick up his three-year-old son.
