Pipe bombs recovered from loyalist area

The RUC have recovered a "significant find of munitions" in playing fields in the loyalist Ballysillan area of north Belfast.

The RUC have recovered a "significant find of munitions" in playing fields in the loyalist Ballysillan area of north Belfast.

The find includes 300 rounds of ammunition, five pipe bombs and a coffee jar bomb. The bombs which were found at around 11 p.m. last night were all primed and ready for use, according to the RUC.

Meanwhile, British army bomb experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious object found near Carrickmore in County Tyrone.

It was found in the Minadinna Lane and Drumnakelly Road area at about 10.30 p.m last night.
