A groundbreaking DNA technique allegedly linking two men to the killing of two soldiers has been admitted as evidence by the trial judge.
This is the first time the method has been allowed by a UK court but Mr Justice Anthony Hart said it was reliable and acceptable.
Colin Duffy and Brian Shivers deny the murder of sappers Mark Quinsey and Patrick Azimkar, who were shot outside Massereene army base in Antrim.
Judge Hart told Antrim Crown Court: “I am satisfied that the stage has now been reached in the case of this system where it can be regarded as being reliable and acceptable, and I am satisfied that Dr [Mark] Perlin has given his evidence in a credible and reliable fashion.
