Vatican City - The Vatican newspaper Osservatore Romano yesterday strongly condemned a decision by France to make the "morning-after" contraceptive pill available in its schools.

The newspaper called Monday's announcement by the French Schools Minister, Ms Segolene Royal, "a cruel hypocrisy". French authorities had taken the shortest route to combating teenage pregnancy, but it was a route of contemptible morality, according to an article by a theologian, Gino Concetti.
