Irish oil exploration Petrel Resources said its pre-tax losses widened in the six months to end June from €100,000 to €126,000.

Between April and June 2004, Petrel submitted plans to develop the Khurmala Dome, Hamrin and Subba and Luhais oil fields in Iraq. Each tender is to develop oil fields producing in excess of 120,000 barrels a day.

On September 27th, the company said the Iraqi Ministry of Oil has invited it for "an urgent and direct discussion to finalise all technical and commercial matters" in relation to the first of three tenders.
