The Irish Anti-War movement today urged people to take to the streets of Dublin this Saturday for a second national demonstration against the US-led invasion of Iraq.

A number of groups including Representatives from the Conference of Religious in Ireland, the Islamic Community group and SIPTU today joined forces in backing the demonstration.

"Despite the huge demonstrations of February 15th around the world Bush and Blair have gone ahead and begun their attack on Iraq," said Mr Richard Boyd Barrett, Chairman of Irish Anti War Movement.

"The allied forces have unleashed a ferocious assault which is certain to claim the lives for thousands of innocent Iraqis," he said.

"We want to see tens of thousands take to the streets against this war and to protest the disgraceful collaboration of our government with this barbaric war," he added.

The demonstration will assemble in Parnell Square at 3 p.m.

Earlier a number of anti-war activists staged a silent protest outside Tulla District Court this morning.

Eight people were due to appear in the court this afternoon charged in connection with offences allegedly committed at a peace march at Shannon Airport on March 1st last.
