THE Huddersfield couple whose marriage ceremony was performed by a trainee vicar, have split up after just 10 months. The marriage of Rodney and Shirley Earnshaw last August was performed by Stephen Grant (19), a church server and history student after the vicar failed to turn up. Yesterday Grant expressed his sorrow at the split. He said he had met the Earnshaws at their marriage preparation classes and thought they seemed a very committed couple.
Actress Kim Basinger yesterday won a battle to save 36 beagle puppies from having bones in their legs broken to test a drug for osteoporosis in humans. Yamanouchi, the Japanese pharmaceutical company which commissioned the experiments, said it had decided to halt them.
The Duchess of York might have found herself a new career as a radio chat show host, the BBC said last night.
The Duchess, better known as Fergie, has been talking to the international arm of BBC radio about the possibility of having her own programme.
"The programme has not been commissioned; it's at a very early stage," a BBC spokesman said.
He said that if any programmes were made, they would be transmitted outside Britain.
