Christine Hamilton (48), wife of disgraced former British MP Neil Hamilton, said yesterday he has had enough of politics - but added that she might stand for parliament. She was commenting on the recent Channel 4 comedy Mr White Goes To Westminster, based loosely on the Hamiltons' electoral battle with Martin Bell, in which a disgraced MP's wife runs for parliament.

Last year Christine wrote and featured in the Bumper Book Of British Battleaxes, to help pay the mortgage.

China's leading dissident Wei Jingsheng (47) called on Western countries yesterday not to put business interest in China's booming economy before the promotion of human rights.

Wei, who was released last November after spending 18 years in Chinese jails for his political activities, said: "I feel pain that now Western democratic countries are caught by the Chinese market economy's fishing hook."
