Parry on course for Masters plan

Australian Craig Parry holed-in-one to move into third place in the ANZ Championship at the storm-hit Lakes course today.

Australian Craig Parry holed-in-one to move into third place in the ANZ Championship at the storm-hit Lakes course today.

Parry, trying to lower his ranking to earn a start in the US Masters at Augusta in April, moved into third place behind compatriot Andre Stolz during the second round of the co-sanctioned European Tour stableford event.

He needs to improve his world ranking from 86th into the top 50 to be guaranteed a start.

Stolz leads with 30 points in the stableford format after two rounds followed by South African Trevor Immelman (29), Parry (28) - who holed a four iron on the 15th hole - and Australian Scott Laycock (27).

Parry beat Tiger Woods to win the New Zealand Open at Paraparaumu Beach last month and catapult his ranking up 59 places.

Victory on his home course this weekend should move him into the top 60 where he would be in contention with two American events still to play before the Masters field is finalised next month.

"I've only hit one bad shot each day. It would be great to play like this back in America and I haven't given up on playing at Augusta yet," said Parry.

Parry carded four birdies and two eagles for 18 points today while Stolz had eight birdies, an eagle and two bogeys for 19 points.
