Verdun - A babbling kidnapped parrot with a penchant for whistling the theme tune of the film, The Bridge on the River Kwai, alerted French police to his whereabouts. Max, an expensive blue parrot hailing from the forests of Gabon and worth $1,600, had driven his captor's neighbours mad with his screeching and chatter.
He was finally traced after eight days when neighbours, complaining of loss of sleep due to his night-time gabbling and crooning, called police, officers in this eastern town said yesterday. The parrot was kidnapped by a young bird-lover.
