Thousands of festival goers heading for Oxegen in Co Kildare today have been advised to use public transport.

All car parks at the festival site in Punchestown have been closed due to the adverse weather conditions.

No cars are being allowed approach Punchestown from either the Naas or Blessington sides.

Any motorists attempting to reach the site will have to usefree park and ride facilities at Goff's near Kill on the N7. Free shuttle buses are ferrying festival-goers to the site.

AA Roadwatch has reported that limited parking is now available on the Walshtown Road, which goes from Naas town toward the Blessington Road.

Some 80,000 people are expected to attend the two-day event.

Weather prospects look to have improved somewhat over yesterday's conditions. However, a festival is hardly a festival without mud and the substance in question is not in short supply. Festival-goers are advised to dress accordingly.
