Four men who scaled a massive crane in Belfast city centre, causing the closure of a number of roads, were arrested by the PSNI yesterday.
The emergency services were alerted at 9.30am, although according to police the men may have been on the crane for several hours before that.
Two of the men came down from the crane, which is located close to the site of a new hotel at Bedford Street, shortly after the PSNI and emergency services arrived at the scene.
For a number of hours, however, their two friends resisted attempts by police and fire rescue crews to inveigle them down. One could be seen sitting out on the arm of the crane. The emergency finally ended at 1.45pm when the last of the men climbed down. The four were charged with disorderly behaviour.
PSNI superintendent Mark Purdon said what the men did was "madness", and that they could have been killed.
