An interim High Court order preventing work on the Ballymun regeneration project in Dublin, on which more than 1,000 construction workers are employed, was varied yesterday to provide for safety and remedial measures to be carried out.
Earlier this week, Mr Justice McCracken granted the National Authority for Occupational Safety and Health an interim injunction directing Ballymun Regeneration Ltd to stop eight separate building projects.
Work on the development stopped voluntarily on September 28th at the request of Ballymun Regeneration Ltd. This followed the death of a four-year-old boy who was hit by a construction vehicle near his home while chasing a toy glider on to a roadway. The temporary closure came pending a review of health and safety management and co-ordination throughout the project.
In court yesterday, Mr John Gordon SC, for Ballymun Regeneration Ltd, said it had been possible in the interim to reach a formula acceptable to both his client and health authority which would permit works to be undertaken to make the site safe.
