The British Embassy is understood to have bought Marlay Grange, a large Victorian house in need of refurbishment in Rathfarnham, Co Dublin, as a new residence to replace Glencairn in Sandyford, which was sold more than three years ago and has been rented back since.

Marlay Grange will be occupied by the ambassador and his/her family, but as it comes with considerable acreage it is planned to create a secure compound by building residences for up to seven members of the embassy staff in the grounds.

Marlay Grange was originally part of the large Marlay Park house and gardens which is now in public ownership.
