Representatives of the people caught up in the 1998 Real IRA attack on Omagh, tonight assessed progress being made by the investigation into the process with Minister for Justice Mr O'Donoghue.

The Omagh Victims Group saw the minister for the first time at his Dublin office for what they called a "wide-ranging discussion of a series of issues".

Afterwards, chairman Mr Michael Gallagher - whose son died in the blast that killed 29 people and injured more than 200 - said they had expressed concern that no one had yet been brought to justice for the bombing.

But he added: "We were happier coming out of the meeting than when we went into it. The minister expressed support for our bid to bring a civil action over the bomb."

Mr Gallagher also said his group hoped for an early meeting with Garda Commissioner Pat Byrne.
