An official of the Northern Ireland Housing Executive is to stand trial on seven charges relating to the importation of indecent material.

Mr Norman David Irwin (39), of Kiltyclay Road, Cookstown, Co Tyrone, also faces 55 charges of making indecent photographs of a child under 16 years.

Mr Irwin made no reply to the charges when he appeared at Cookstown Magistrates' Court yesterday. The offences allegedly took place between February 1995 and July last year.

Mr Irwin was released on bail until his trial at Omagh Crown Court on a date to be fixed. A condition of bail is that he reports once a week to the RUC.
