A Jamaican nurse, alleged to have had over £100,000 worth of crack cocaine in her possession when arrested, was terrified on remand in Mountjoy Prison, the Dublin District Court heard yesterday. Ms Denise Browne (23), of Kingston, Jamaica, was charged along with Mr Alvin Clarke (23), of Montego Bay, Jamaica, with having the drug for the purpose of supply on March 8th at Dun Laoghaire port.

Judge David Riordan turned down an application for bail. Ms Browne wept as her solicitor said she had been threatened while on remand in Mountjoy since her arrest.

Prosecuting, Garda Darn O'Toole, of the Store Street Drugs Unit, said he believed she would abscond if granted bail. He would contact the governor of Mountjoy to request a secure facility. Judge Riordan remanded the accused woman in custody to March 22nd, along with her co accused.
