Brussels - Two Rwandan nuns yesterday denied any part in the massacre of more than 5,000 people at a convent during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, saying they had been powerless to stop the killings and feared for their own lives.

"I never wanted anybody to die," Sister Gertrude told a Belgian court. "I suffered with the people," she whispered. "I am not a racist."
