The NRA said the completion of the route selection process for the N7, N8 and N9 inter-urban routes was "a key development in the authority's strategy to improve the reliability and safety of national roads.
"We have taken an important step towards realising the National Development Plan objectives to remove traffic bottlenecks and remedy capacity deficiencies, thereby improving access to regions and contributing to competitiveness within the economy generally," said the chairman of the NRA, Mr Liam Connellan.
Mr Michael Tobin, chief executive of the organisation, said: "The progress to date is the outcome of extensive planning studies designed to identify optimum route choices, taking account of environmental impacts, effects on land and property owners, traffic movement patterns, engineering and cost considerations".
The county councils involved in the project (Laois, Limerick, Offaly and Tipperary North), along with the design team, will be represented when the plans go on public display over the coming weeks. The displays will last from noon to 8 p.m. at each location.
