Lassing - Hopes of rescuing 10 men missing for more than two weeks in a collapsed Austrian mine were dashed yesterday when no one was found in an air pocket where the victims were thought to be. A video camera and microphone failed to register anyone dead or alive in the cavity at a depth of 130 metres.
Hopes of finding some of the men alive were raised a week ago when a miner who had been given up for dead after the mud slide at the pit on July 17th was pulled out unscathed. The last noises from below were heard on Wednesday, and experts said there was a chance some of the men had survived.
