Politicians have blamed “evil elements” for a gun attack in Antrim in which three people fortunately escaped serious injury.
A man in his 40s and a couple in their 20s were in a house at Portlee Walk in the town last night when two shots were fired through the kitchen window.
The shooting incident follows a number of pipe bomb attacks in the town.
Police have yet to establish a motive for the shooting, but Alliance Party leader David Ford said he was worried by the latest violent episode.
“The local community will be horrified at news of this attack,” he said.
“Those involved in this attack have an agenda of fear and we need people with information to come forward and help police catch these evil elements.
“My thoughts are with those who were in the house at the time of this attack as they try to get over this ordeal.”
Alliance Party councillor for the area Neil Kelly said: “There has been a very troubling spate of pipe bomb incidents in the town in recent months and this news is deeply worrying.
“People in Antrim are sick of the very small number of individuals who have been involved in these incidents.
Anyone with information on any of them should contact police immediately.”
