Police are hunting a male driver who tried to drag a teenage girl by her hair into his car in Portadown last night.

Police are hunting a male driver who tried to drag a teenage girl by her hair into his car in Portadown last night.

The 15-year-old managed to fight off the man and he sped away. Police said the victim was walking home at 11pm last night when a black car pulled up near the junction of Old Gilford Road and Gilford Road in Portadown.

"The driver spoke to her before trying to pull her by the hair into his car. "The girl managed to break free and flee home," said an officer.

The car headed off in the direction of Gilford. The teenager is said to be extremely distressed and shaken after her ordeal. Police said they believe about six cars passed the scene during the incident and they have appealed to anyone in the area at the time to contact them.

The driver is described as being aged between 25 and 35, chubby, square faced with a prominent jaw and a flat nose. He had short, dark, spiked and gelled hair and was wearing a ring on his left hand and spoke with a local accent.
