A MAN who is accused of the murder of two women and two young children in Co Limerick is being treated at the Central Mental Hospital, a court heard yesterday.

John Geary (31), Meadow Court, Newcastle West, but originally from Milford, Co Cork, is charged with the murder of Sarah Hines (25), Amy Hines (five months), Reece Hines (3) and Alicia Brough (20) at Hazelgrove, Gortboy, Newcastle West, Co Limerick, on November 15th.

Mr Geary, who is unemployed, was due to appear before Newcastle West District Court yesterday. However when the case was called, Judge Mary O’Halloran said she noted he was not in attendance and said he was a patient at the Central Mental Hospital in Dublin.

Garda Insp Eamon O’Neill asked that Mr Geary be further remanded in custody to appear before the same court next month.
