New parking control systems and charges in Dublin come into effect tomorrow.

New parking control systems and charges in Dublin come into effect tomorrow.

Solar-powered "pay and display" machines and multi-bay parking meters are being introduced to replace the existing 3,800 parking meters in the city which were first introduced in 1970.

The cost of parking is also going up. Hourly rates of £1 in central business areas and 80p elsewhere - up 20p in each case - are being introduced with the new meters and machines. Disc parking will cost £1 per two hours, also up 20p.

Drivers are also reminded that from next week all parking control systems are being extended to include Saturdays.
