The new Ferrari Formula One car, the F2002, was put through its paces today for the first time by world champion driver Michael Schumacher at the Italian stable's private Fiorano track.
The car, unveiled at Wednesday's launch at Maranello (Fiorano is part of the Maranello complex but in a neighbouring commune), has been heralded by Ferrari chiefs as a massive leap forward from last year's F2001 which won both the drivers and constructors championships.
On Wednesday the team's technical director Ross Brawn said that a decision was yet to be taken whether to start the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on March 3rd with the F2002 or F2001.
"Our options are open - we don't have a lot of time. If we have two weeks of testing with no major problems we will go with the F2002. If not we will stick with the old one," said Brawn.
He even hinted at possibly using both cars in Australia, saying: "Or maybe it will be something old, something new."
