FORMER GOVERNMENT press secretary Joe Lennon, who left a senior post with the Health Service Executive (HSE) last week, is to become special adviser to Minister for Finance Brian Cowen.

Mr Lennon, who had served as director of communications for the HSE, will take up his newly-created post at the end of April following Cabinet approval yesterday.

Also yesterday the Government agreed to extend the term of office of CIÉ chairman John Lynch for another two years.

Mr Lynch has been chairman of CIÉ for the past decade and before that he was chairman of FÁS. His term was due to expire on March 28th and has now been extended until the end of March 2010.
