Chief Supt Kieran Joseph Egan has been appointed a Garda Assistant Commissioner with effect from today.
Aged 52 and a native of Galway, he joined the Garda in 1964, became sergeant in 1979, inspector in 1989, superintendent in 1991 and chief superintendent in 1995.
