'New approach' to social housing

A “new approach to social housing provision” will be announced by the Department of the Environment today.

In conjunction with the Clúid Housing Association, the department is to outline how apartments in south Co Dublin, bought by the voluntary housing association from Nama, will be used for social housing and the private rented sector. “The purchase is part-financed by a loan from the Housing Finance Agency,” a statement from the department said.

Neil Bolton, director of operations with Clúid, said economic conditions had forced the voluntary housing sector and the department to explore new avenues.
