The convicted murderer Catherine Nevin has chosen not to attend her forthcoming appeal, scheduled for next month, the Court of Criminal Appeal was told today.

She was sentenced to life in prison in April 2000 for murdering her husband Thomas at their pub - Jack White's Inn, Co Wicklow - in 1996.

It is expected her appeal will start on February 11th. Attendance by the appellant is not compulsory.

Mr Patrick MacEntee SC, for Ms Nevin, told the court the lawyers had firm instructions that she did not wish to attend the appeal.
