AOL Time Warner offshoot Netscape Communications has filed an anti-trust lawsuit against Microsoft.
It's seeking redress for alleged anti-competitive conduct against it and its related internet browser.
AOL Time Warner said the lawsuit, filed in the US Federal District Court in the District of Columbia, is based on the anti-competitive conduct for which the US government has already pursued Microsoft.
The seven-count lawsuit alleges that, beginning in 1995, Microsoft harmed Netscape in a series of illegal acts.
It claims these were aimed at promoting Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser at the expense of Netscape Navigator, then the predominant internet browser.
The suit seeks injunctive relief sufficient to prevent further anti-trust injury to Netscape, and damages to be determined at trial.
America Online acquired Netscape Communications in 1999.
Ten states still have not settled their anti-trust case against Microsoft.
