Jerusalem - The Israeli Prime Minister, Mr Benjamin Netanyahu, no stranger to political and sex scandals, wished President Clinton well on Israel's behalf yesterday and predicted a swift end to the President's crisis.

"He is a friend of Israel and he certainly wants the best for us and we certainly want the best for him and the best for the United States," Mr Netanyahu (48) told Israel Radio.

Asked if he expected Mr Clinton to survive the turmoil, Mr Netanyahu said: "I am not going to speculate but I hope and imagine it will end swiftly and enable the United States. . . to do what all of us want it to do as a world power, as a free country leading the world, to help remove the threats and advance peace in the world, including the Middle East."
