Nearly 200,000 cigarettes seized

Customs officers have seized 189,600 cigarettes and 28kgs of tobacco at Dublin airport.

The vast majority of the seizure, 100,200 cigarettes and 28kgs of tobacco, was made after officers intercepted 12 passengers arriving on a flight from Tenerife yesterday.

Officers also made further seizures from couriers arriving on flights from Dubai, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Hungary.

In total the approximate street value of the haul is €86,277 marking a potential loss to the exchequer of €70,129. Brands seized include Pall Mall, CK, L&M, Marlboro, More and West.
