London - A police chief yesterday called for a national DNA database for the entire population. Chief Supt Peter Gammon, president of the Police Superintendents' Association, said: "I am asking for an examination of the issue of setting up a national DNA database for all the population.
"If we set up a national database, we make investigation of major crime more efficient, and there will be cost savings." The proposal was criticised by human rights group Liberty as "unbalanced, misguided and wrong".
