Murder inquiry begins after woman's body found

A murder inquiry has begun in Ennis, Co Clare, after the discovery of the body of a 19-year-old woman last night.

A murder inquiry has begun in Ennis, Co Clare, after the discovery of the body of a 19-year-old woman last night.

The body of Ms Lorraine O’Connor was found by a friend in a flat in Brewery Lane, Fergus Row, in the town at about 8.30 p.m. The scene was sealed off overnight for a Garda technical examination.

It is understood Ms O'Connor had been strangled.

A friend alerted the Garda after she visited the flat and found the body in the bedroom. It is not known who was living in the flat.

On Sunday the O'Connor family had notified Garda that she was missing from home, a garda spokeswoman said.

The Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, has carried out a post mortem and the results will be known later.
