A murdered woman was stabbed at a house party in Northern Ireland, it was claimed today.

Katie Hughes (21) died in hospital following the incident in Park Avenue, Bangor, Co Down, last night. Police tonight confirmed the victim was the mother of a young girl.

The party was for friends who were going to Australia.

Mr Cairns said his son and girlfriend had moved into the mid-terrace property in January. Ms Hughes didn’t live at the house. She was from Chatsworth in Bangor.

Mr Cairns continued: “My son and two friends stepped outside for a smoke. There was no rowing or anything, he said it was completely out of the blue.

“He heard a noise and he came in and the girl had been stabbed.”

Democratic Unionist Assembly member Alex Easton said: “I am absolutely shocked and horrified at what has happened and I want to totally and utterly condemn the loss of life of a young lady and appeal for anyone with information to come forward.”
