Maputo - The government in the former Portuguese colony of Mozambique said yesterday it was shocked by the bloody events.

"We are deeply shocked with the continued violation of elementary human rights in East Timor in the eyes of an incapable international community," the Prime Minister, Mr Pascoal Mocumbi, said.

He was surprised by the indifference of the international community, which had intervened in numerous "similar situations in the past."
