The former Kerry South TD and county councillor Breda Moynihan-Cronin is set to be the only candidate at tonight’s Labour Party convention in Killarney to fill the Kerry County Council seat left vacant by the Seanad election of Marie Moloney.
This follows the withdrawal of Caroline Clifford, a Mandate union official and the only other candidate selected by Labour’s organisational committee last week.
Ms Clifford has accused the Labour headquarters of using her “to facilitate” the re-entry of Ms Moynihan-Cronin. She said she felt she was being used as “a prop” and questioned the selection process which eliminated other prominent and long-standing members.
