A man has appeared in court charged with killing a fellow prisoner in Mountjoy last year.
Dublin District Court heard that Alan Smith (33) with an address at Ballybough House, Ballybough Road, Dublin 3, made no reply when charged with Mr Byrne’s murder early today.
David Byrne (26) from Sheriff Street died after he was beaten with a sock stuffed with batteries in the prison in June 2009.
There was no application for bail and Judge David McHugh remanded Mr Smith in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on October 14th.
