Mother jailed over access

London - A British mother went to prison yesterday rather than allow contact between her five-year-old son and his father. The woman was jailed for three months at the High Court after persistently disobeying a court order for contact between the boy and his father.

She had claimed her former boyfriend was a "sexual deviant". The woman, who cannot be identified, admitted contempt, saying she would never let the father have contact.

Judge Paul Downes, sentencing, said he recognised that jailing the mother would be damaging to the boy and her other children, but she had left the court no choice.
