A Co Monaghan mother received a jail sentence of one month at the District Court in Carrickmacross when convicted of being drunk in charge of a child.

Mary McNee, of Clontrain, Carrickmacross, appeared on remand before Judge Flann Brennan.

The case was adjourned from a previous sitting to enable the judge to consider the question of a penalty.

The court had heard that when gardai called to a bar in Carrickmacross they discovered the woman, who was accompanied by her seven year old son, in an intoxicated state.

She denied in court that she had any drink taken and said she called to the pub to collect her partner.

Judge Brennan fixed terms for an appeal.
