The money is believed to be profits from drug dealing and will be confiscated by the Criminal Assets Bureau.

According to Garda sources, there arc a number of couples among the 18 people who were arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act. They can be detained for up to 48 hours.

Gardai have questioned a number of people at various times since Ms Guerin was shot dead on July 26th. Most recently, two men were questioned on September 25th and another man was detained at Lucan garda station.

On September 4th, four women were arrested and questioned. On September 13th, four men were taken to Lucan and Ronanstown garda station and interviewed by gardai.

In early August, gardai arrested four Dublin men associated with the major criminal believed to have ordered the journalist's assassination.

They were seeking the whereabouts of £100,000 in cash which was withdrawn from a bank account in the name of the wife of the man suspected of ordering the journalist's murder. It is not believed this woman was among those being questioned last night.

A total of £121,000 was withdrawn from the account in Co Dublin in late July. Gardai recovered £21,000 at the home of the criminal's brother.
