Bank of Ireland has announced that Pat Molly has been appointed to succeed Richard Burrows as the institution's new chairman.
Mr Burrows is to step down as director and governor next month.
Mr Molloy (71) was chief executive of the bank between 1991 and 1988 and subsequently served as a non-executive director of BoI until 2001.
In addition, he has since served as a non-executive director on the Boards of CRH, Eircom and Waterford Wedgwood. He was also chairman of Enterprise Ireland

He is currently chairman of Blackrock Hospital, Dublin Adult Learning Centre and the Hugh Lane Gallery Trust.
