The son of a missing Dublin man is to be observed in prison following a suicide attempt. Mr William Corbally (24), of Ballygall Parade, Finglas, son of "Jock" Corbally, who is believed to have been murdered by criminals, threatened to kill himself if remanded in custody, Dublin District Court was told.
His solicitor, Ms Yvonne Bambury, said she was very concerned about the defendant, as he had made a serious suicide attempt the night before. His father had been missing for two years and was believed to have been murdered. The accused man also had a serious drug addiction problem.
Ms Bambury said the defendant had never made threats like this before and she believed the danger to be genuine. She asked the court to grant bail under whatever conditions.
Garda Brendan Twyford said he arrested Mr Corbally the previous night for failing to appear in court on March 19th. There were four other bench warrants in existence for which the defendant had received bail.
Judge Gerard Haughton said he could not grant bail on the basis that someone arrested after being released on other warrants had threatened to commit suicide. The judge remanded the defendant in custody until June 4th, directing that medical treatment and observation be provided.
