– Home secretary Jacqui Smithbecame the first cabinet casualty of the MPs' expenses scandal.

– Children's minister Beverley Hughesannounced she was stepping down for "personal reasons".

– Cabinet office minister Tom Watsonsays he will step down.

June 3rd

– Communities Secretary Hazel Blearsquits following revelations about her expenses claims.

June 4th

– Work and pensions secretary James Purnellquits. It was reported he had avoided paying capital gains tax.

June 5th

– Defence secretary John Huttonquits, insisting it was for entirely personal reasons.

– Transport secretary Geoff Hoon, who was also implicated in the expenses scandal, resigns.

– Employment minister Tony McNultyresigns over expenses.

Margaret Beckettresigns as housing minister, reportedly after she was not offered another post.
