The establishment of a new agency with responsibility for children and family services and the broadening of an oversight group on implementing the Ryan report has been announced by the Minister for Children.

Speaking on the second anniversary of the publication of the Ryan Report of the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse, Frances Fitzgerald said she had invited the Children’s Rights Alliance to join the oversight group.

She also said she was personally taking over the chair of the group to ensure the delivery of the HSE’s plan for its implementation.

The new agency will be headed by Gordon Jeyes, who was appointed as national director of children’s protection services within the HSE under the previous government.
