The introduction of a vaccine against Meningitis C last October has more than halved the number of cases of the disease in the groups targeted by the campaign.

With the exception of a single case, all instances of Meningitis C infection which occurred were in unvaccinated individuals. There were three deaths in the target groups compared with five in the October-April period of the previous year.
