Two men, caught by gardai after a high speed car chase through Co Galway over several hours continued to be questioned yesterday "about a number of serious crimes including several armed robberies in the West of Ireland".
The men, in their 20s, were arrested after their car crashed in the Headford area, 15 miles north of Galway, on Friday night and were held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Mill Street station, Galway. Their period of detention was extended by 24 hours at 11 p.m. on Saturday.
A Garda spokesman confirmed that the two first came to Garda notice at 4 p.m. on Friday and were found at 11 p.m. after they tried to make their way across fields in a wooded area near Headford village.
