THE singer who last week was rather curiously voted "The man most British women would like to marry" wandered around Dublin last week entirely unmolested. Cliff Richard was here to celebrate his birthday at, the Westbury Hotel and reports in the English press that he caused hysteria on the upper deck of a cross town bus were entirely exaggerated.
Our answer to Cliff - Daniel O'Donnell (well, they do share a penchant for the same size hair big) was also in town this week and he was given an extremely warm reception by his fellow Donegal men at a party at the Burlington Hotel on Tuesday evening to announce his home region's new tourism drive Discover Donegal 96.
Grand National horse trainer Terry Casey arrived, as did Mike Murphy, US ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith and Matt McNulty, along with what seemed like half the county. Their message is that Donegal is a great weekend place - apparently Dubliners think that it is a tortuously long drive and one definitely not to be contemplated on a Friday night. Daniel himself is a one man tourist industry drawing busloads of mostly women fans to his Viking Hotel in Kincasslagh.
