Thieves dressed in Ireland team kits stole 225,000 yen (€1898) from a pizza shop at the Ibaraki stadium north of Tokyo before the Germany-Ireland match yesterday.

Local police confirmed approximately 20 men "who looked like foreigners" and were dressed in green Ireland kits arrived at the pizza outlet on the first floor of the Ibaraki stadium at about 7:30 p.m. local time.

The owner of the shop said a plastic bag full of money, that had been taped to the inner side of the counter, went missing soon after the men were served and left.

"We are looking for these people, but it will be difficult because we don't know their names or anything. They just came into the shop as customers," said a police spokesman.
