Bono's memory of the first time that he met Bill Clinton differs sharply from that of the great man's, as we discovered during Tuesday night's gala dinner in Clinton's honour in Dublin Castle.
Their paths crossed during the 1992 presidential campaign in Chicago. "The governor of Arkansas was in the executive suite. And we were in the presidential suite," joked the U2 lead singer.
Bono remembers one of the band haring off in the early hours, after too much booze, to lecture Clinton on the plight of the Irish illegals in the US - before being stopped by secret service agents.
The following morning, Clinton arrived at their suite to find a bleary-eyed, hungover band surrounded by bottles. "He said: "Haven't you guys heard of Morrison visas?" Bono declared.
